Introducing Hugh

Ten years ago Hugh sold his very successful training studio in Wellington, so that he could support his wife in her career. He moved the family to Auckland and once they were settled into their new home in Devonport, started back doing what he does best, train people.

Everything after that happened very quickly.

Initially he started running boot camps at Narrow Neck beach, which filled the void of the sports team training he used to do in Wellington. These have grown to be very popular and continue to be very successful..

He also started working comprehensively with tennis players - first working with the Ngataranga Tennis Academy to help develop and improve the strength and speed of their young interclub players, then with top Oceania Davis Cup player Gilles De Gouy preparing him for a fixture in Myanmar.

Hugh has since been lucky enough to train some of New Zealand's best...

NZ #1 ranked player Rubin Statham - an absolute legend of the game and the NZ Davis Cup #1

Macsen Sisam - who is currently at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and is likely to be the next top player out of NZ.

Alex Klintcharov - an exciting player who trained for a time at the Taylor Dent Academy in Texas and is now looking to make his way up the world tennis rankings, also a great prospect for the future.

Also former NZ under 18 champion Elys Ventura, a great young tennis player with a bright future, who is now on scholarship at Missouri University in the USA.

He has also worked for a short time with recent Davis Cup players Ajeet Rai and Isaac Becroft.

In addition to these players, he is also working with a number of exciting young prospects working their way through the junior age groups

Hugh also works with a number of other athletes including sailors, skiers, rugby players, cricketeers and golfers.

One of his extremely talented young golfers, Logan Hooper, played at the World Junior Champs in the USA in 2020 and is now on scholarship at the NCAA Division 1 University of Toledo in Ohio.

Two other exceptionally, amazing athletes are Liam Richards and Mischa Thomas who have both been selected for the Snow Sports Freestyle Skiing National Development Team. Watch out for more great stuff from these two!

In addition to this he also trains Charlotte Wiggins, a really talented and hard working young Alpine Ski Racer who competes in both Slalom and Giant Slalom races around the world, more often than not ending up on top of the podium!

In a slightly different role Hugh is also the specialist Goalkeeper Coach for the NZ Black Stick Men's & Women’s Hockey Teams. This is a follow on from his former playing days as a Black Stick and his huge passion for coaching.

He was responsible for the skill and game development of our three top male keepers as they headed towards the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and then worked with both teams going into the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022.

As you can see, Hugh has a keen interest in working with athletes but alongside this loves to work with anyone trying to improve their overall fitness and strength.

If you are interested in working with Hugh, would like a program or some training advice he is easily contactable and happy to help.
